Volvo Car Group joins Corporate Partnership Board

Swedish premium car maker to join group of leading corporations to work with International Transport Forum on important topics such as road safety, shared mobility and decarbonising transport

Volvo Car Group (Volvo Cars) has become a member of the Corporate Partnership Board (CPB) of the International Transport Forum (ITF). As part of its involvement, Volvo Cars will focus on projects around shared mobility, road safety and decarbonising transport.

Volvo Cars is one of the most well-known and respected car brands in the world with sales of 534 332 cars in 2016 in about 100 countries. In 2016 Volvo Cars announced one of the automotive industry’s most comprehensive electrification strategies in which plug-in hybrids will be introduced across its entire range. In 2008, Volvo Cars introduced “Vision 2020”, making it a company objective that by 2020 no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car.

Volvo Cars has production plants in Sweden, Belgium and China and employs around 30 000 people worldwide.

The ITF is an intergovernmental organisation with 57 member countries that facilitates global dialogue for better transport. It acts as a think tank for member governments and organises an annual summit of transport ministers. The CPB is the ITF’s platform for engaging with the private sector and to enrich global transport policy discussion with a business perspective.

José Viegas, Secretary-General of ITF, welcomed Volvo Cars to the CPB:

“Volvo Cars has an excellent reputation for its longstanding commitment to safety, quality and the environment. Its strong comitment to road safety is in keeping with ITF’s longstanding work with our member countries on road safety. As the governance of autonomous and connected cars becomes more urgent for policymakers and industry alike, we look forward to Volvo Cars bringing its knowledge and expertise in these areas and also to the work of the Corporate Partnership Board and the global dialogue for better transport.”

The members of the ITF Corporate Partnership Board are Abertis, AB InBev, AeroMexico, Brisa,  ExxonMobil, Ford, Google, Here, Incheon International Airport, Inrix, Kapsch TrafficCom, Michelin, NXP, PTV Group, SAS, SNCF, Siemens, Total, Toyota, Transdev, Uber, Venice Port Authority, Volvo Cars and Volvo Group.
