Transport and Covid-19: responses and resources

Enhancing Regional Freight Connectivity for Central Asia: Sustainably bridging the gaps with physical and soft measures

ITF Meeting ITF Meeting

The ITF is leading the transport-related work of the “Sustainable Infrastructure Programme in Asia” (SIPA), a four-year programme (2021-25) led by the OECD to encourage the transition towards cleaner energy, transport and industrial systems in Central Asia and Southeast Asia. The SIPA programme aims to better align the region’s infrastructure investment during the economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic with the objectives of the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

This event launches the study and conducts initial stakeholder consultations to better align the project objectives and work plans with the needs and priorities of the Central Asia countries. This event gathers policymakers and experts from the regional transport sector in each of the six study countries:  Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Turkmenistan (TBC), Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

The event includes other key stakeholders, such as international organisations (AIIB, BSEC, EBRD, IRU, OECD, TRACECA, UNDP, and World Bank) and country representatives, adding further depth to the information and insights on the regional transport situation in Central Asia.
