Preserving Transport Connectivity and Building Freight Transport Resilience in ASEAN: ASEAN / ITF Joint Webinar
ITF Meeting
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the International Transport Forum (ITF) at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), in cooperation with the ASEAN secretariat, are organising a webinar, Preserving Transport Connectivity and Building Freight Transport Resilience in ASEAN on Thursday, 9 July 2020.
This webinar will provide a platform for ASEAN Member States to exchange information on transport policy response to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, with a focus on cross-border freight transport operations. Discussion outcomes will help identify priority areas for regional cooperation among ASEAN countries that could be further supported by ESCAP, the rest of the UN system and the ITF.
The results of the discussions will guide ESCAP’s work on helping the region “build back better” and shift to a new, more sustainable transport system in the post-COVID-19 world in line with the ESCAP Framework on Socio-Economic Response to COVID-19 and using the current UN-wide initiatives, such as the UNDA rapid response project on Transport and trade connectivity in the age of pandemics: UN solutions for contactless, seamless and collaborative transport and trade. The discussion outcomes will also contribute to the ITF’s ongoing discussions with its Member Countries on transport policy responses to COVID-19, as well as the identification of priority areas as countries start to move towards their recovery phases.
- ITF Secretary-General Young Tae Kim provides an opening statement.
- Jari Kauppila, Head of ITF's Secretary-General's Office and Head of Quantitative Policy Analysis and Foresight, is a speaker in Session 1: Introductory Session on Transport Connectivity and COVID-19.
