Transport and Covid-19: responses and resources

Transport Climate Action Directory Internship

About ITF

The International Transport Forum (ITF) is a global intergovernmental organisation with 63 member countries within the OECD family. The ITF works to foster a deeper understanding of the role of transport in economic growth, environmental sustainability and social inclusion and to raise the public profile of transport policy. It acts as a platform for discussion and pre-negotiation of policy issues across all transport modes. We analyse trends, share knowledge and promote exchange among transport decision-makers and civil society.

About the Internship

The ITF is looking for an intern to support the work on the Transport Climate Action Directory (TCAD), which is an online repository of transport CO2 reduction policy measures. Each measure on the TCAD contains information on CO2 emissions impacts, costs, co-benefits and other considerations. The TCAD is a work in progress and is continuously updated with new measures. The candidate will support  further updates on the TCAD by carrying out desk research for the drafting of new measures and updating of existing measures and ensuring the TCAD interface functions smoothly, especially in the run up to the COP27. In this process, the intern will have the opportunity to liaise with subject matter experts across the ITF as well as external experts. The Intern will be part of the Quantitative Policy Analysis & Foresight Division, reporting to the manager of the Transport Climate Action Directory. The internship will be full-time based in the OECD headquarter in Paris. Given the current pandemic situation, a remote internship is also an option, subject to the agreement between the candidate and the hiring manager.

Main Responsibility

This internship intends to ensure that the TCAD, as a live tool, is kept up to date as we approach COP27 later this year. Under the guidance of the project lead, the candidate will contribute to different tasks involved in keeping the TCAD updated, including the following:

  • Conduct desk research to identify and draft new TCAD measures, in line with the existing format and style of writing
  • Identify and make the updates required to existing TCAD measures
  • Work with the Communication team at the ITF to ensure that the interface of the tool is functioning smoothly
  • Work with subject matter experts to collect relevant literature and get the measures reviewed
  • Liaise with colleagues from across the teams to support the roll-out of new updates
  • Support the team with dissemination events for the TCAD

Requirements and Experience

  • Currently studies in or recently completed a graduate programme in transport, urban planning, engineering, economics, public policy, political science, development studies or another relevant discipline.
  • Familiarity with the broader topics of transport decarbonisation and sustainable mobility and a desire to learn more about the subject
  • Research skills: capacity to find and identify relevant papers on a specific issue and the ability to extract the main conclusions from a given strand of the literature
  • Excellent drafting skills in English; ability to organise and summarise complex material
  • Proficiency in the use of standard software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work harmoniously as part of a multicultural team
  • Ability to work individually or on teams while maintaining an openness to coaching and feedback
  • Experience managing activities or projects is a plus

Internship Duration

The internship duration is four months. However, the duration can vary, subject to the agreement between the candidate and the hiring manager.

The ideal starting date of the internship is 1 August 2022.

Eligibility and Compensation

  • Internships are only open for candidates enrolled as full-time students in an accredited educational or research academic programme for the duration of their internship.
