About the Dashboard

The Used Vehicle Dashboard allows you to explore statistics on the international import and export of used passenger cars. This data was collected as part of the ITF “New but Used” project from online government statistical sources and from personal correspondence with national statistical ministries. The raw database is available for download below together with a metadata file with future details of the sources of information used.

Tabs

In the Sankey graph global tab, the user can visualise the global exports of used cars from origin to stated destination.[1]

The Dataset comparison tab shows differences in reported data between EUROSTAT data and national databases.

The Value Trend tab shows the monetary value of used car exports/imports and the average value of each vehicle for countries where data is available.

The Quantity Trend tab shows the number of used cars exported/imported by different countries.[2]

Data

Download used vehicles metadata (xlsx) and export data by country (xlsx).

The data was compiled and formatted by the ITF but not modified in any other way. As discussed in “New but Used: The Electric Vehicle Transition and the Global Second-hand Car Trade” (ITF, 2023), we expect many of the flows of vehicles are under-reported. By sharing this data, we hope to trigger discussions about ways to improve data collection.
