Transport and Covid-19: responses and resources

Special webinar on Smart Mobility and Data Governance: Insights for the Next SIP on the Development of Smart Mobility Platform

ITF Meeting ITF Meeting

8:00-11:00 CEST

This event discusses emerging concepts, principles and actions contributing to effective and equitable data governance frameworks. The event draws on experience from the International Transport Forum (ITF), Japan, Europe and North America. Whereas transport, water, electricity and other foundational networks are regulated in order to deliver the highest public good, this is not yet the case for emerging data infrastructure – and more particularly, for mobility data infrastructure.

Rapid digitilisation has had broad and profound effects on all aspects of society – including transport. Digitilisation promises great efficiencies but it also presents significant challenges. One thing is certain, however: it is becoming increasingly necessary for citizens to interact with digital systems, networks and platforms in order to lead fulfilled lives.

The webinar begins with presentations from Japanese and global experts on data governance, including from the ITF, who share recent information and policy challenges surrounding data governance, including but not limited to, the context of Mobility as a Service (MaaS).

Following these presentations, a panel discussion is held on appropriate data governance principles and frameworks that are universal for all regions and while still being relevant to the Japanese context.

The findings from the discussions will be used to develop discussions on the implementation of the Next SIP (Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program) on the Development of the Smart Mobility Platform.

The webinar is hosted by the Cabinet Office’s Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (CSTI) of the Government of Japan and the ITF via video conferencing with simultaneous interpretation services (English and Japanese).
