Government Support Measures for Domestic Air Connectivity: Expert Workshop

ITF Meeting ITF Meeting

The UK Department for Transport requested the ITF to review government policies towards fostering domestic air connectivity in a selection of OECD countries. The aim of the project is to assist the Department with setting out its domestic connectivity policymaking within the 2019 Aviation Strategy

As part of this exercise, the ITF organised an Expert Workshop, opened by ITF Secretary-General Young Tae Kim, during which the following experts discussed approaches to supporting domestic air connectivity (and the effectiveness of these approaches) in a selection of OECD countries:

  • Australia, Canada, and the USA: Mike Tretheway (Chief Economist at InterVISTAS)
  • Japan, with particular focus on ring-fencing of slots at Haneda Airport: Katsuhiro Yamaguchi (Director General of East Japan Civil Aviation Bureau 2016-17, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Japan; Visiting Researcher at the Graduate School of Public Policy, University of Tokyo)
  • Norway and Sweden: Svein Braathen (Professor and Director of the Transport Research Group Molde University College) and Jon Inge Lian (Senior Advisor, Avinor)

The ITF will publish a report with policy recommendations based on the discussions in November 2018. Subscribe to free publication alerts to receive a notification when the report is available.
