Innovative Mobility for the Periphery
Limited transport options in peripheral, rural and remote areas often hinder citizens from accessing basic services, reaching jobs and participating in social activities. To improve access for rural populations, a number of countries are developing novel ways to provide economically viable yet affordable, inclusive and sustainable mobility where the market and conventional public transport struggle to provide appropriate connections.
The ITF "Innovative Mobility for the Periphery" Working Group examines how rural areas can benefit from innovation in the transport sector. The Working Group aims to understand how technological and social innovation can improve accessibility for rural populations. It provides a platform to exchange best practices and develop transferable approaches for transport provision in communities on the periphery. It uses case studies to capture and evaluate a wide range of innovative delivery models, including new forms of partnerships and public, private and non-profit models.
