About the Award

The Journalism Award “Transport and Mobility in Latin America” is offered by the International Transport Forum (ITF). The ITF is an intergovernmental organisation with 66 member countries and is part of the OECD family of organisations.

The ITF is the only global body that covers all transport modes. It organises global dialogue for better transport to improve people’s lives. We act as a think tank for transport policy and organise the Annual Summit of Transport Ministers.

The ITF’s Latin American member countries are currently Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Mexico.

What you can win

The winner of the ITF Journalism Award “Transport and Mobility in Latin America” will be invited to attend the 2024 Summit of Transport Ministers as a guest of the International Transport Forum.

The ITF Secretary-General will honour the winner at an award ceremony during the Summit. The winner will also have the opportunity to present the topic of the winning entry at the Summit and discuss it with high-level attendees.

The 2024 Summit will take place in Leipzig, Germany, from 22-24 May on the theme “Greening Transport: Keeping Focus in Times of Crisis”. The ITF Summit is the world’s largest gathering of ministers with responsibility for transport and the premier global transport policy event.

Each May, it brings together several dozen ministers and around 1400 other delegates, including CEOs, heads of international organisations, top academics and representatives of civil society.

The Award winner will have access to the Summit and benefit from countless opportunities to attend panels, participate in workshops, be part of networking events and attend the open ministerial meeting.

How entries are evaluated

Entries are evaluated by a jury of ITF and external transport experts and communication professionals. The jury assesses entries on:

  • Relevance: Does the entry link policy issues with people’s lives?
  • Balance: Does the entry present the issue in an accessible way while reflecting its complexities?
  • Originality: Does the entry take an interesting approach or use an unexpected angle to the issue?

The ITF announces the winner in February 2024.
