ITF welcomes Turkey Ambassador to the OECD
ITF Secretary-General Young Tae Kim received Turkey's Ambassador to the OECD Erdem Başçı in Paris on 19 July 2018. Ambassador Başçı presented the Turkish government's new structure following the recent elections including the transformation towards an executive presidency. Responsibility for the transport portfolio will move from the former Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communications to a new Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, which will liaise with ITF. The new Minister of Transport and Infrastructure is Mr Mehmet Cahit Turhan, who previously served as Director-General of Highways.
Turkey is a very active member of the ITF and in 2009 held the ITF presidency. A recent ITF report used Turkey as a case study to examine the drivers of logistics perfomance. ITF has also compared the Mediterranean ports of Mersin (Turkey) and Marseille (France) in a 2014 Discussion Paper.
