Mobility Monitoring Series: “Exploring new transport data sources” (virtual meeting)
ITF Meeting
14:00 - 15:45 CEST
The covid-19 crisis and the corresponding lockdowns in many countries generated an unprecedented decline in transport activities and consequently an urgent need for transport data, both to understand the situation and to develop the required policy measures to respond to this worldwide crisis.
The UNECE and the ITF organised virtual meetings last summer to better understand and share challenges countries were facing to fulfil decision makers’ needs for transport planning. They both want to help countries find coordinated and harmonised solutions to the situation. The two organisations have therefore decided to join forces and start a series of virtual meetings on mobility monitoring. The aim of the series is to:
- Provide a platform for interested countries to exchange on critical issues they are facing during this covid crisis;
- Discuss methodologies and joint approaches to the use of “fast indicators” to ensure their comparability across countries;
- Develop strategies for new methods of data production, considering obtaining data from private sources, ensuring sustainability of production, and considering ways to measure the quality and accuracy of any new statistical outputs;
- Collate available information in a single place for countries to use as they wish.
